Donald Louis Fuhrman died December 7, 2014, at the age of 90.Don was born June 24, 1924, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the only child of Clara (Menz) and Louis Fuhrman. He grew up in El Reno, graduating from Sacred Heart High School. In his youth, he was a strong tennis player and hoped to become a surgeon. After a year at Benedictine College, he was drafted into the Army Infantry during WW II. He was gravely wounded while serving in the Pacific. After recovery and discharge, Don attended OU. He earned his law degree and was admitted to the Bar in 1950. Following graduation, Don lived in Tulsa, working for the Army Corps of Engineers, Amerada Hess and Sinclair Oil. In 1955, Don moved his family to Oklahoma City.Don worked for Ashland Oil until 1966 when he "went out on his own," beginning a long career as an independent landman. In addition to the OBA, he was a long-time member of the AAPL and OKCAPL. He took pride in and enjoyed his work. He was a mentor to many as they started careers in the oil and gas industry.Don loved to listen to music, particularly jazz and big band. He enjoyed time at his lake house, checking on his farm property, and driving comfortable cars. Above all, he loved spending time with his wife, three daughters and five grandchildren. He was a quintessential family man.Don was known for his quiet, wry sense of humor. He was a wonderful story teller, but, equally, he was a splendid audience for a good story. He was a loyal friend, a kind listener, and a proud father and grandfather. A lifelong Catholic, Don was deeply influenced by his faith. In addition to his wife of 66 years, Winifred Bailey Fuhrman, he is survived by his daughters and their husbands: Paula Cail (Don), Oklahoma City; Beth Scott (Rocky), Edmond; and Anna Fuhrman (Joe Kerr), Washington, DC; and his grandchildren: John Scott (Christina), Edmond, and Sarah Scott, Dallas; Rachel Cail, Oklahoma City, and Bob Cail, Berkeley, CA; and Lucy Kerr, Washington, DC.Don lived a life of quiet dignity. He is greatly missed always, and most especially this Father's Day.
